Getting Around Town
No trip to Puerto Rico is complete without a visit to Old San Juan. Expect a 20-25 minute taxi ride, longer if during peak travel times. To save on costs, carpool with other conference attendees! Taxis in Puerto Rico are expensive, but also quite large. It's not uncommon to be picked up by an 8-seater van (costs the same as a sedan taxi). $21 fare to/from hotel and Old San Juan.
Zika Virus Concerns
As ACMT gears up for another Annual Scientific Meeting packed with education and networking opportunities, we realize that many may have concerns about the increasing reports regarding Zika Virus infections in the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico. At the current time, ACMT is moving ahead with established plans to hold the 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Intercontinental hotel.
All participants and staff traveling to Puerto Rico for the 2017 ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting are asked to be aware of travel notices from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding zoonotic infectious diseases like Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, and others. ACMT recommends that all staff and participants familiarize themselves with information provided by the CDC about traveling to Puerto Rico: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/puerto-rico.
For specific Zika Virus concerns, additional information can be found at: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/alert/zika-virus-puerto-rico.
As we are constantly presented with new global health and travel challenges, ACMT advises members to continue to provide risk communication to family and friends.
