Toxicovigilance

In accordance with our mission, ACMT is advancing the quality of care of poisoned patients and improving public health by focusing our endeavors on toxicovigilance. Toxicovigilance incorporates the active evaluation, assessment, and validation of clinical adverse effects related to a toxic exposure.  Through monitoring of data and early identification of the toxic risks associated with an agent, we are better able to understand the underlying problem, validate treatment recommendations and collaborate with various local and governmental health and regulatory organizations to improve overall patient care.

ToxIC is uniquely qualified to fulfill this role, as we are able to provide medically validated data of each exposure, analyzed the data on a real-time basis, and provide a risk assessment.

Areas of interest include the following:

  • Illicit drug abuse
  • Emerging drugs of abuse
  • Prescription drug abuse
  • Polydrug use in the elderly
  • Adverse drug reactions (ADRs)
  • Monitoring of newly approved medications or patterns of use
