ACMT / ALiEM Visual Pearls Series a Success

Submitted by ACMT Board Intern Hannah Malashock, MD

A collaboration between the online educational site Academic Life in Emergency Medicine (ALiEM) and ACMT has so far proven to be quite successful! This partnership aims to promote high-quality toxicology educational content while increasing the involvement of ACMT and its members in the online medical education community. Since April 2017, a total of three pieces in the series entitled “ACMT Visual Pearls” have been published on the site. Combined, they have had more than 5,000 online views, with the most recent post alone receiving over 2,500 views.

With over one million visitors per year, Academic Life in Emergency Medicine is a popular and well-regarded online institution and has long been a forerunner in the ever-evolving landscape of online medical education and academia. It is devoted to providing high-quality and accessible educational resources, in addition to online professional development and the advancement of virtual communities.

The Visual Pearls posts typically begin with one to two clinical images as prompts followed by a related multiple choice question. A brief explanation as well as a few bedside pearls and references accompany the correct answer. Submissions are accepted from any interested ACMT member and are peer reviewed by ACMT board members Louise Kao and Brian Judge, selected experts within the ACMT membership, as well as representatives from Academic Life in Emergency Medicine.
