A New Annual MTF Award, The Charles E. Becker Medal, will recognize Outstanding Achievement as a Medical Toxicology Fellow
The Medical Toxicology Foundation is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a $50,000 gift from Dr. Charles E. Becker and Family. Dr. Becker bestowed this generous donation with the intention to create a new award for ACMT, the Charles E. Becker Medal for Outstanding Achievement as a Medical Toxicology Fellow. Dr. Becker is considered one of the pioneering leaders in establishing the specialty of medical toxicology. In a career spanning more than four decades, his contribution to scholarship, research, public health promotion, and professional medical education in medical toxicology have earned him international recognition and respect.
At the start of his illustrious career, Dr. Becker received the prestigious Kober Medal as a medical student at Georgetown University. He often speaks fondly of how recognition early in one’s career can foster enduring professional development, which in turn served as an inspiration for Dr. Becker to establish an early career award through the MTF. The Becker Medal will recognize an outstanding fellow who similarly embodies the innovation, leadership, and humanitarianism of Dr. Becker and whose professional goals include a desire to make a significant contribution to advance the field of medical toxicology.
A Medical Toxicology Foundation Working Group of senior and early career ACMT members is currently finalizing procedures for awardee nominations and evaluation. It is anticipated that nominations of medical toxicology fellows who graduated from programs in June 2022 will be accepted in the Fall of 2022, followed by evaluation in late 2022 and early 2023. The first Charles E. Becker Medal for Outstanding Achievement by a Medical Toxicology Fellow will be awarded at the 2023 ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting & Symposium in San Diego, CA in late March 2023.
