Join the ACMT Public Affairs Committee

The ACMT Public Affairs Committee was established over five years ago by a small group of members who wanted to increase awareness of the specialty of medical toxicology. Since that time we have grown our social media presence, published dozens of press releases, and created educational content for the ‘Toxicology Resources’ section of

In March, ACMT hired a Communications Manager, Kristen Malecki, who has taken on much of the day to day work that the Public Affairs Committee was previously responsible for. So now a new era begins for the Public Affairs Committee and we are actively seeking new members to participate and contribute their creativity and talents to our mission of enhancing awareness and recognition of Medical Toxicology as a distinct medical specialty.

Opportunities within the Public Affairs Committee include outreach to the public, media, and/or to the medical community. We have developed a number of ways to achieve our goals of both enhancing awareness of our specialty and also of providing a resource to the public for reliable and science-based medical toxicology information. The committee has needs for the following:

  • Helping to develop educational content for layperson consumption under Useful Resources or with press releases *
  • Identifying important topical toxicology-related issues that can be discussed or debated in a new creative format *
  • Social media content (Twitter/FB)

* You are not expected to execute distribution of this information, rather help to compile content.

How do you benefit from participation? There are countless benefits to joining an ACMT committee. If you are affiliated with a University, contribution to your professional medical society is valued for academic promotion. The networking and ACMT connections you make may also lead to professional references for promotion to Associate Professor or Professor. You can build your CV, meet other medical toxicologists from around the country, hone your writing skills, and most important, contribute to the growth and advancement of your specialty.
