Congratulations to Ellenhorn Award recipient Ken Kulig, MD, FACMT. At ASM 2017, Dr. Kulig pointed to the remarkable changes over the past 30 years in his presentation “One Medical Toxicology Career from the Rearview Mirror.” One change he did not predict is the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana in many states. He also spoke about the opioid epidemic and trends in pharmaceutical lobbying and advertising and diversion of drugs in healthcare facilities. Dr. Kulig thanked his longtime colleagues and the ACMT Board.
Dr. Kulig also provided tips for a rewarding career in Medical Toxicology including:
- Research and publishing
- Join committees
- Spend time in tox lab and autopsy room
- Spend one-on-one time with patients
- Give hope to those who have none
Dr. Kulig is a fellow of the American College of Medical Toxicology and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. He is a partner in the group Toxicology Associates, Prof LLC in Denver, based at Porter Hospital, where he has served as Chair of Medicine, Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Chair of Credentials, President of Medical Staff, and was recently voted Physician of the Year.
