Edwin K. Kuffner, MD MTF Board Member

Biography

Currently, Dr. Kuffner is the Chief Medical Officer at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. He leads a team of medical and safety professionals (e.g. doctors, nurses, pharmacists, scientists) whose sole focus, independent of business or financial objectives, is on patient/consumer safety. He is a member of the J&J Office of Consumer Medical Safety and a member of the Consumer R&D Leadership team. Prior to joining J&J, Dr. Kuffner spent 10 years working in Colorado as an emergency physician and medical toxicologist. While in Colorado he held academic teaching positions at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Denver Health Medical Center, was the Assistant Director of the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center and was a Medical Director of an emergency department. Dr. Kuffner has authored numerous publications, including many involving acetaminophen.

Education

Dr. Kuffner received his B.A degree in German Language and Literature from the State University of New York and his M.D. from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn. He trained in Emergency Medicine at New York University and Bellevue Hospital Center where he was a Chief Resident. He completed a medical toxicology fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center in Denver, Colorado. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and medical toxicology.
