Travel Award Opportunities
The MTF offers a range of travel awards designed to encourage early interest in the field by enabling recipients to attend the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting where they can engage with leaders in the specialty, explore innovative research advancements, and learn more about the path to fellowship training.
Travel Awards
Submission
Complete the online application form and upload the required PDFs by October 12, 2026.
Applicants only need to submit one application to be considered for all eligible travel awards.
Those applying for the Dr. Michael Shannon Travel Award and/or Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health Travel Award will automatically be considered for both awards through a single submission.
Application Procedure
Applicants must submit a single PDF containing the following materials in the order listed below:
- Current curriculum vitae (CV)
- Letter of support from an advisor, program director, clerkship director, dean, or other appropriate supervisor
- Letter of nomination from a current ACMT member (if the applicant's program director is an ACMT member, that letter may serve as both the letter of support and nomination)
- A 1–2 page essay describing the applicant's interest in and background in medical toxicology
Applicants seeking consideration for the Dr. Michael Shannon Travel Award and/or Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health Travel Award should also include a brief statement describing how they qualify as a member of an underrepresented group.
Dr. Carol R. Angle Pediatric Toxicology Travel Award

Dr. Carol R. Angle is an established legacy in the world of medical toxicology and a woman who has made a significant impact on many levels as a pediatrician, nephrologist and noted expert on lead poisoning. In establishing this travel award with the MTF, Dr. Angle’s goal is to encourage pediatric residents and medical students to pursue Medical Toxicology fellowship training.

The Resident Travel Award is intended for medical residents with a demonstrated interest in medical toxicology. Its aim is to foster early engagement and exploration of cutting-edge research presentations, educational sessions, and expert-led lectures in the field at ACMT's premier event. The award will provide registration to ACMT's Annual Scientific Meeting and fund reimbursement to support travel and lodging.

This travel award honors the memory and contributions of Dr. Michael Shannon, an ACMT Past President who passed in 2009. It was established to encourage medical trainees (students or residents), who self-identify as members of any underrepresented group, to attend ACMT’s Annual Scientific Meeting. The award will provide registration to ACMT's Annual Scientific Meeting and fund reimbursement to support travel and lodging.

In partnership with Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health, the MTF provides travel awards that will allow medical trainees (students or residents), who self-identify as members of any underrepresented group, to attend ACMT’s Annual Scientific Meeting. The objective of the Abstract Travel Awards is to stimulate interest in medical toxicology research careers by providing recognition to students and residents with outstanding abstracts accepted by ACMT for presentation at ACMT's Annual Scientific Meeting. The award will provide registration to ACMT's Annual Scientific Meeting and fund reimbursement to support travel and lodging.
