The Paracelsus Society
Leave a Lasting Legacy
Paracelsus was an exceptional visionary who transformed our world. A Swiss physician, alchemist, lay theologian, and philosopher, he is known as the "Father of Toxicology" and was a pioneer in several aspects of the medical revolution of the Renaissance.
The Paracelsus Society celebrates that history by gratefully recognizing modern day leaders in the field of medical toxicology.
Making a Planned Gift
Once you’ve made the decision to include the MTF in your planned giving, if you haven’t already, we understand you may want to seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor.
To include the Medical Toxicology Foundation in your plans:
Please use our legal name and federal tax ID.
Medical Toxicology Foundation
10645 N. Tatum Blvd Suite 200-111
Phoenix, AZ 85028
Federal tax ID: 26-4311090
Sample language for an unrestricted gift that allows the Medical Toxicology Foundation to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:
"I give to the Medical Toxicology Foundation, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 10645 N. Tatum Blvd Suite 200-111, Phoenix, AZ 85028, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose."
To designate your bequest for a particular purpose:
"I give to the Medical Toxicology Foundation, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 10645 N. Tatum Blvd Suite 200-111, Phoenix, AZ 85028, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as the Medical Toxicology Foundation determines that the need exists. If the Medical Toxicology Foundation shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then the Medical Toxicology Foundation may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above."
Have you already included the Foundation in your plans? If so, we thank you for your vision and generosity. Please complete the Declaration of Intent form or let us know at foundation@acmt.net so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes.
Decade by Decade Guide
Ensure your plans for the future, including the positive impact you want to make, are keeping up with your life!
As you move from one stage of life to the next, things change and priorities shift. This guide can help you meet your personal and charitable goals, at any age. Of course, meeting with your financial or legal advisor to discuss your goals and long term planning options is highly recommended.
In Your 40s and 50s
Create a will/trust and powers of attorney. If you already have a will/trust, update it to reflect any life changes, such as a new relationship or children becoming legal adults. Meet with a financial advisor to review your investments and savings—you still have time to make catch-up contributions for retirement.
Options to consider
1. A gift in your will or trust: This costs you nothing today and can be made by adding one sentence to the document.
2. Retirement plan assets: Name the Medical Toxicology Foundation as a beneficiary of part or all of an IRA or other retirement plan. It takes minutes to contact your plan administrator or complete the change-of-beneficiary form online.
In Your 60s
Check with your financial advisor to make sure you are on track with retirement savings. If you have already retired, revisit your expenses, priorities and health care needs. Update your will/trust, beneficiary designations, powers of attorney and property titles to reflect your current wishes.
Options to consider
1. Life insurance policies: Consider adding the MTF as a beneficiary.
2. Appreciated securities: Donate stocks you have owned for longer than one year and receive an income tax charitable deduction when you itemize. You can also eliminate capital gains taxes.
3. Wills/trusts and beneficiary designations: As you revisit these important plans, you can include the MTF to make an impact after your lifetime. It costs you nothing today.
In Your 70s
Discuss your giving goals with your family and meet with your financial advisor to align your financial and philanthropic plans.
Options to consider
1. Life income gifts: Consider establishing a charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder trust. You receive income for life, with the rest supporting the Medical Toxicology Foundation after your lifetime.
2. Gift from your IRA: Also note that if you are 70½ or older, you can give from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as the MTF without having to pay income taxes on the money. If you are required to take minimum distributions, this can also satisfy all or part of that obligation.
In Your 80s and Beyond
Inform close family members and loved ones of your wishes and location of vital papers. Update your health care power of attorney and living will.
Options to consider
1. Legacy letter: This companion piece to your estate plan is a chance to share your story and your values with your loved ones.
2. Beneficiary designations: Retirement plan assets are subject to income tax when distributed to loved ones, but they pass tax-free to charitable organizations.
