Biography

Lewis S. Nelson, MD, MBA, FACMT, is Dean and Chief of Health Affairs and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton, FL. Prior to this role, he was the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Chief of the Division of Medical Toxicology and Addiction Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, in Newark, NJ. He is board certified in emergency medicine, medical toxicology, and addiction medicine. He is past president of the American College of Medical Toxicology and Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine and served on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. He is an editor of the textbook “Goldfrank’s Toxicologic Emergencies” and on the editorial board of both the Journal of Medical Toxicology and the Annals of Emergency Medicine.

Education

Dr. Nelson received his Doctor of Medicine, Cum Laude, from State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (Downstate), NY. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a fellowship in medical toxicology at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Nelson received a Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University, and in 2022, he earned an MBA from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University.
