Founded in 1993, the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) is a professional, nonprofit member association, and the primary organization that serves Medical Toxicologists. Our membership comprises physicians board certified in medical toxicology, and other professionals with recognized expertise in the specialty. Physician (Full) members come from a variety of primary specialty backgrounds including Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and more.

Several membership opportunities are available to those who work in the field of medical toxicology both in the U.S. and internationally who are Board Certified or are pursuing a career in medical toxicology (Medical Students, Residents, Fellows in Training.)

Full Member

Annual Fee: $440


Available to physicians who have:

(1) Been certified in the subspecialty of Medical Toxicology by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Board of Preventive Medicine, or

(2) Completed a two-year medical toxicology fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and received the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Medical Toxicology from the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM), or

(3) Been certified by the former American Board of Medical Toxicology.

All members in good standing shall have the right to vote, and be eligible to be Directors and Officers.

International Member

International Member Non-Developing Country: $240 Developing Country: $60


Physicians practicing medical toxicology outside the United States may be eligible for International Membership. International Members enjoy all the privileges of Full Membership except the right to vote or hold office. All International Member applicants must be approved by the Membership Committee and are required to submit three referrals, including at least one from a current ACMT member.

To be eligible for International Membership, a candidate must demonstrate that:

  • One of the following applies:
    • More than half of their medical toxicology practice occurs outside the United States, or
    • They are ineligible to sit for the ABMS or AOBEM board certification examinations because residency or fellowship training was completed outside the United States
  • They have completed a training program in a primary specialty equivalent to a U.S. residency program
  • They are actively engaged in the practice of Medical Toxicology

International Members become eligible for the honorary designation of Fellow of the College (FACMT) after four years of International Membership, once applicable professional criteria are met.

International Member Rate Selection

Applicants will select one option from the dropdown below:

  • Standard International Member
    • For applicants practicing in countries not classified as low-income or lower-middle income by the World Bank
  • International Member Reduced Rate (Developing Country)
    • Available to toxicologists practicing in countries classified as low-income or lower-middle income by the World Bank
    • All eligibility requirements are identical to Standard International Membership
    • This reduced rate is intended to improve access to ACMT resources and global professional networking for toxicologists for whom standard membership dues may be a barrier

Medical Student Member

Annual Fee: $25


Medical students enrolled in a medical school are eligible to become Medical Student Members. Medical Student members shall pay reduced dues and enjoy all of the privileges of membership except that they shall not have the right to vote, hold office or become Fellows. Medical student membership will be limited by the duration of the individual’s training program.

Resident Member

Annual Fee: $40


Available to physicians who are currently enrolled in a training program in any medical specialty. Resident members shall pay reduced dues and enjoy all of the privileges of membership except that they shall not have the right to vote, hold office or become Fellows. Resident membership will be limited by the duration of the individual’s training program.

Fellow in Training Member

Annual Fee $90


Physicians who have successfully completed a residency training program in a primary medical specialty, and who are enrolled in a training program in medical toxicology that has been approved by the ACGME, are eligible to become Fellow-in-Training Members. Fellow-in-Training members shall pay reduced dues and shall enjoy all the privileges of membership except that they shall not have the right to vote or to hold office.

Affiliate membership is available to a wide variety of individuals, including licensed physicians, or non-physicians with an advanced-level degree or ABAT certification who either works in a field related to medical toxicology, or has demonstrated significant interest in medical toxicology. U.S. Affiliate Member

Annual Fee: $240


Either licensed physicians or non-physicians with an advanced-level degree or ABAT certification that either works in a field related to medical toxicology or has demonstrated significant interest in medical toxicology is eligible to apply for Affiliate membership. Affiliate members would enjoy all the privileges of membership, except that they shall not have the right to vote or to hold office or to become a Fellow of the College. Affiliate members shall be approved by the Membership Committee.

Affiliate member applicants are required to provide two referrals (at least one reference needs to be from a current ACMT member). If you are an ABAT member, no reference is required. Please contact us at membership@acmt.net if you have trouble procuring the ACMT references. We will be happy to help you, if needed.

International Affiliate Member

Annual Fee: $240


Either licensed physicians or non-physicians with an advanced-level degree, in countries outside the United States, that either works in a field related to medical toxicology or has demonstrated significant interest in medical toxicology are eligible to apply for International Affiliate membership. Prospective International Affiliate Members shall be approved by the Membership Committee and shall enjoy all the privileges of membership except that they shall not have the right to vote or to hold office, and they are not eligible for designation of Fellow of the College (FACMT). International Affiliate member applicants are required to provide three referrals (at least one reference needs to be from a current ACMT member).
