Dear ACMT Members,
Winter is coming! For many of us who are fans of Game of Thrones, this phrase may send a familiar chill down the spine. For ACMT staff and our Board of Directors, however, it signals the excitement and anticipation of several major initiatives coming to fruition.
Recently, I was part of a collaborative group of members who authored a statement regarding the potential association between autism spectrum disorders and the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy. This brief statement will soon be followed by a more comprehensive document outlining our position on this important issue. Publishing these statements is never simple—timeliness must be balanced with rigorous review, collaborative authorship, and clear, responsible communication.
Shortly after we welcome 2026, our Board will convene for the annual retreat and meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, where we will thoughtfully evaluate our current activities and set a strategic course for the future of our specialty and our college. Meanwhile, ACMT staff and volunteers are already hard at work preparing for our Annual Scientific Meeting this March in Boston. This year’s meeting is shaping up to exceed expectations, with innovative preconference topics such as Risk Assessment/Risk Communication and Toxicosurveillance—both new additions to our program. The main conference will once again offer multiple parallel tracks to meet the diverse interests of our members.
We are also thrilled to announce and honor the inaugural class of ACMT Distinguished Fellows, a new designation that received an impressive number of applications from our FACMT members. Stay tuned for additional highlights, including special guest speakers, social events, and other surprises.
I am equally pleased to share that ACMT staff and contributing members have successfully secured funding from the White House to study drug exposures in victims of trauma. Advancing evidence-based research remains central to our mission and continues to shape our specialty’s impact on public health.
Finally, the election of four new members to the ACMT Board of Directors is underway, and we look forward to the continued leadership and dedication of our talented colleagues. My virtual door is always open—whether you have questions or are interested in serving ACMT in any capacity. As one of my mentors often says, this work is truly a labor of love, and I deeply appreciate the remarkable commitment and expertise our members bring to the college.
Together, we continue to advance our field and make a meaningful difference.
