Education to Reduce the Risks of Opioid Analgesics

Join us on Saturday, March 22, 2025, for a free 3-hour REMS-Compliant CE activity designed for healthcare professionals who care for active-duty military members and Veterans. This live virtual event is offered by AKH Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare, and the Veterans Health and Wellness Foundation (VHWF) in collaboration with subject matter experts from the American College of Medical Toxicology.

This live virtual educational program will:

  • Equip healthcare providers with tools to ensure the benefits of opioid therapy outweigh the risks.
  • Demonstrate methods to address substance use disorders and prevent overdose deaths.
  • Provide guidance on safe and optimal opioid prescribing practices while ensuring patient access to necessary pain medications.

AKH and VHWF were awarded an independent medical education (IME) grant by the Opioid Analgesic REMS Program Companies ("RPC") to educate prescribers and other healthcare providers about the treatment and monitoring of patients with pain. AKH and VHWF worked collaboratively with specialists in substance pharmacology and the assessment and management of substance use disorders from the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT). This education is compliant with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Opioid Analgesic Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) educational requirements. The goal of the Opioid Analgesic (OA) REMS is to reduce the risk of serious adverse outcomes from prescription opioid analgesics.
