ACMT’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

ACMT is taking steps to promote diversity, inclusion, and health equity within the medical toxicology community as well as the College. Doing so will help us/ACMT to fulfill our mission and provide the best care to our patients.

Building on previous initiatives, in April 2021, ACMT developed a workgroup to address issues specifically related to diversity, equity and inclusion chaired by Dr. Peter Akpunonu. This group is focusing on promoting diversity and inclusion among the membership and within the field of medical toxicology while guiding our efforts along the way. The College will also work to promote health equity in our policy, practice, research, and public health efforts. A few of our more immediate next steps include updating our strategic plan to make sure that diversity, inclusion, and health equity are represented, collecting constituent data to determine the composition and diversity within the membership of the College, and developing and implementing a work plan that lays out additional steps that the College will take this coming year.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions regarding this effort and if you would like to become involved. It is our belief that recognizing and addressing diversity, inclusion, and health equity will help us be a better organization, better providers, and better colleagues.
