Microplastics Editorial in the Journal of Medical Toxicology Among Top 10 Downloaded Articles of 2018

More questions than answers about the toxic effects of invisible microplastics humans are unknowingly ingesting.
PHOENIX (PRWEB) February 18, 2019 -- “Microplastics and Human Health: Our Great Future to Think About Now" by Amy V. Kontrick, MD, published in the Journal of Medical Toxicology (April 2018), is among the top 10 downloaded articles in 2018 from all Springer Nature journals in the Pharmacology & Toxicology category.
In the editorial, Dr. Kontirck explains, “Due to their small size and persistence, (microplastics) have been found throughout our environment. They have been found in all forms of marine life; in table salt, honey, sugar, and beer; in organic fertilizers; in the dust in our homes; and most alarmingly, in bottled and tap water samples.” Dr. Kontrick maintains there are more questions than answers about the toxic effects of invisible (to the naked eye) microplastics and the pesticide and metal pollutants they carry; she argues it's the responsibility of the entire scientific community to further research and debate on this issue.
