Michelle Ruha, MD, FACMT Past President (2021-2023)

Biography

Dr. Ruha is now Vice-Chief of the Department of Medical Toxicology at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix and Section Chief for Addiction Medicine. Dr. Ruha is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicology, and Addiction Medicine, with her clinical practice focused on the care of patients with medication or venom toxicity as well as substance use disorders. She is a Clinical Professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Medical Toxicology since 2009.

Education

Dr. Ruha received her medical degree from UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School and then completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. Her fellowship training brought her to Phoenix, Arizona, where she served as Director of the Medical Toxicology Fellowship at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center from 2005 to 2017.

Med Tox Areas of Focus

Dr. Ruha's primary research interests include North American snake and scorpion envenomations, and she is the Principal Investigator for the ACMT North American Snakebite Registry.
