Fall Message From ACMT President, Ziad Kazzi, MD, FACMT
Friends and Colleagues,
As summer winds down and we head into fall, we are reminded of the season’s themes of change, reflection, and harvest. It’s a fitting time to look back at the many ways our members have contributed to the mission of ACMT and to celebrate those efforts highlighted in the MTF Annual Impact Report.
This fall also brings one of our most important annual events—NAACT—where ACMT is proud to be organizing an innovative pre-symposium, Beyond the Beat: Toxicology and Harm Reduction at Mass Gatherings, along with several other exciting activities.
I am especially pleased to share that ACMT staff and contributing members have successfully secured renewed funding for two multi-year, CDC-supported initiatives. The first will continue advancing the ToxIC Core Registry and Opioid Use Disorder Subregistry. The second strengthens partnerships between medical toxicologists and public health agencies—an initiative I am particularly passionate about. Plans for Year 2 include expanded training and education, a #ACMT2026 pre-symposium on risk communication and assessment, and the launch of a pilot public health rotation for fellows at select sites.
This past month we reached an important membership milestone as we surpassed 1,000 dues-paying members for the first time. This makes us the largest medical toxicology society in the world! We are grateful to have the opportunity to serve so many members who have devoted their careers to medical toxicology and make ACMT part of their professional lives.
This season also brings many important deadlines and opportunities for our members:
- MTF Travel Awards – due 10/13
- ANTIDOTE Institute – apply by 11/3
- Abstract Submissions – due 11/15
- ASM Registration – opens 12/1
Finally, as we prepare for an exciting Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, I want to recognize the outstanding contributions of Ms. Adrienne Dunavin, who directed our educational programs for the last nine years, until her departure this past July. We are grateful for her leadership and wish her the very best in her next role.
Thank you all for your continued commitment and contributions to ACMT. Together, we are advancing the field and making a meaningful impact.
Sincerely,
Ziad Kazzi, MD, FACMT
ACMT Board President (2025 - 2027)
