Dr. Ziad Kazzi became a member of ACMT in 2003, and his term as ACMT Secretary/Treasurer runs from 2021-2023. He is currently Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. We are pleased to be able to get to know Dr. Kazzi a little better through this brief interview.

Q: What inspired you to specialize in medical toxicology?

ZK: Being a specialist beyond emergency medicine and having an opportunity to tackle toxicological public health hazards internationally using multi-disciplinary approaches and by building sustainable and committed partnerships.

Q: What has been a highlight of your time as a member of ACMT?

ZK: Serving on the board of directors for two terms prior to joining the Executive Committee.

Q: What might we be surprised to know about you?

ZK: I grew up in Lebanon listening to French music including classic singers like Charles Aznavour and Pop Stars like Jean Jacques Goldman and Michel Berger. I still rock out to their tunes when I am alone!

Q: What toxic plant, animal, or substance do you find most fascinating and why?

ZK: Ionizing radiation. I find it fascinating because it is invisible yet so easy to detect and measure. It has numerous beneficial applications to health and life and yet can be quite dangerous. It is also an area of medicine in which medical toxicologists have a lot to offer.
